Eligibility & Requirements

Eligibility requirements to be dispatched as a volunteer

Volunteer applicants will be dispatched as volunteers upon the successful completion of the application/training process. This entails:

Attendance and participation in three of three training workshops. During the workshops, applicants will be educated in the values and mission of Good News Corps. There will be guest lectures by prominent figures in society as well as group discussions and activities which will assist in developing and broadening a healthy mindset for volunteering.

Participation in group volunteer projects. Good News Corps will organize group volunteer projects which will allow applicants the opportunity to engage and aid the local community. Through hands on experience, the values of change, challenge and cohesion can be realized and put to practice in the real world.

Choosing a volunteer field

You may choose three countries in order of preference. We will try to accommodate your preference as best we can. However, since space is limited, there is a slight possibility you may not receive your first choice. In the event a decision has to be made between multiple applicants for a volunteer field that has too many requests, the recruiting staff will review each application and take a variety of factors into consideration including but not limited to completion of all the required training workshops & activities to arrive at a resolution.

Requirements
- Age

Applicants must be over 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States or a permanent or conditional permanent resident ("green card" holder).

- Health

Volunteer applicants begin the process of determining whether they are in "good health" by answering the questions in the Health Status Review. Through this preliminary evaluation, the Good News Corps Recruitment office will be able to determine whether you can continue the application process and receive further training.

- Proof of identity

Valid, government issued identification will be accepted as proof of citizenship. This includes birth certificates, certificates of naturalization, and/or U.S. passports. Non citizens must provide a valid "green card" as proof of permanent or conditional resident status. Applicants must provide proof of citizenship or permanent/conditional residence to receive required travel documents i.e., passports for citizens and re-entry permits for permanent/conditional residents.

- For Departure

Citizens of the United States need a government issued U.S. passport valid until the expected date of re-entry into the United States before departing to a foreign nation. Permanent or conditional permanent residents ("green card" holders) are required to submit form I-131 "Application for Travel" to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Approved applicants will receive a re-entry permit valid for one year from the date of departure. Anyone traveling abroad regardless of residence status will also typically require a visa from the country they wish to enter. The requirements and fees involved will vary from country to country. Good News Corps representatives can facilitate this process but applicants are ultimately responsible for the costs and timely submittal and receipt of any necessary documentation to travel abroad.
