Who can participate as a volunteer English instructor?
We are looking for college, university students, and/or adults 18 years of age and older who would like to make a difference in someone else’s life. 16 to 18 year old volunteers must get their parent’s permission.
When and where will the English Camp be held?
Final workshop is from June 4th through 5th. The flight leaving on the 6th must be from New York to Haiti. From 7th to 14th, we will be volunteering at the Haiti English Camp. On the 15th, the volunteers will go out for sightseeing and have a time to share their thought, as we conclude the camp. And volunteers will return back home on the 16th. Return flight can be arranged according to your local region.
Will it be a problem if I don’t speak French?
French speaking skills are not required in order to be a volunteer as an English Instructor at the English Camp. However, there is a great need for French and English speaking volunteers to assist as translators, so French-speaking abilities are welcomed.
Do I need to have prior teaching experience?
Do I need to be an Education or English major to be a volunteer?
No prior teaching experience in ESL instruction is required. The Good News Corps will provide training and preparation sessions through scheduled workshop.
What should I bring?
You should bring below items:
- Valid passport
- Personal sleeping bag
- Cot or camping mat(ex: foam sleeping pad, rolling mat, foam camping mat)
- Basic toiletries
- A Bible
- Swimming suit
- A flashlight
- Clothing for sports activities
During the English camp in Haiti, we will be sleeping in the schools, therefore participants should prepare their own sleeping bags or camping mat. However, you will be able to rent cots for 10 US dollars(for your own comfort) if you so choose.

Do I need a visa to enter into Haiti?
American citizens are not required to have a visa to enter into Haiti. However, if you are a citizen of another country, you must check the Haiti embassy for possible visa requirements.
How can I register to become a volunteer?
You can register online at www.iyfusa.org or call the local IYF branch office nearest you.
How much will it cost me?
The fee for the IYF English Camp Mission Trip is $200 (airfare cost excluded). You will need to pay for your own airfare cost.
